The Department of Psychiatry at Michael Garron Hospital is searching for qualified and dedicated Psychiatrists to join our
department. Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), a member of the Toronto East Health Network (TEHN), is a vibrant community
teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto, and serves one of Canada’s most diverse communities. A new
state of the art, eight story Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre is scheduled to open in 2023.
The successful candidates will be expected to have completed or be eligible for certification in Psychiatry by the Royal
College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and for licensure in the Province of Ontario.
For the In patient Psychiatry position preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or interest in In Patient
Psychiatry. An interest in psychogeriatrics is preferred but not essential. This position will be half time in patients and half
time outpatients with the latter involving a mix of aftercare clinics, and serving as the medical back up for the crisis
intervention out patient service.
Regarding the two out patient psychiatry positions, these will be for general adult psychiatry with experience and/or interest
in the treatment of major mental illness, and crisis intervention preferred as the successful candidates will be the
psychiatrists on a crisis intervention team backing up non medical clinicians, and lead aftercare clinics for patients with major
mental illness.
The successful candidates will be able to work 5 days per week and participate in the psychiatry call schedule. Select
applicants will be invited for an interview. The anticipated starting date is spring 2023 or up to July 2023 if spring is not
possible.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in leadership and exceptional interprofessional skills
and who can further the department and institutional goals of promoting the ongoing success and growth of the adult mental
health programs. The successful candidates will also be expected to contribute to the teaching, supervision, and mentorship
of general psychiatry residents. The successful candidates will be eligible for an appointment to the Department of
Psychiatry at the University of Toronto at the rank of Lecturer or higher. They must demonstrate a commitment to excellence
in psychiatric education and academic administrative involvement, including participating in committees at the hospital and
university level. An interest in research is welcome but not essential.
